June 6th – Governor’s Walk Cancelled

All,

Tomorrow evenings Governor’s Walk performance has been cancelled. For the sake of the residents, with a forecast for rain and cool weather, the activities coordinator for Governor’s Walk and John just had a discussion and have decided this would be for the best. I know this decision didn’t come easily as the residents were very disappointed when we had to cancel last year. Governor’s Walk contacted us back in November to book a date for this year’s performance. We will keep trying and make sure they are on our list for next year.

As I mentioned in my last post (see below), Thursday’s “Under the Domes Navan” performance is a go rain or shine. Please arrive no later than 6:30 to help set up. Be prepared to tune @ 6:45 with a downbeat @ 7 pm. In case of poor weather, we will be setting up and performing in the Curling Club.

Great rehearsal tonight!

We have agreed to a short performance opportunity here at St Pete’s in the Cafetorium on Tuesday, May 2nd. We will be helping Lisa’s colleague Filomena who would like to showcase her new choir. Unfortunately she doesn’t have enough of a repertoire developed yet to fill a full performance so we’ve been invited to join them. We discussed the invitation amongst the Exec and agreed that we could use this as a run through some of our pieces that are concert ready and also use the opportunity to promote our Spring Concert. This is allows us to increase our exposure within the community with those that may not otherwise have an opportunity to hear us perform. We will plan another informal social at Broadways immediately following our miniconcert; with some free appy’s!

We plan to have our Spring Concert tickets printed and ready for sale on this evening. In support of this goal, we will hold an Exec mtg next Thurs, Apr 20th. Our planned agenda has been distributed with our weekly email. Please feel free to attend or suggest any topics you would like us to address. If you wish to do either, please do so before end of rehearsal next Tues.

Great rehearsal last night! We’re covering an incredible volume of pieces but have a busy and exciting June performance schedule creeping up on us. Please take the time to go over your music and parts prior to rehearsal. For some of our road show pieces, we may be going over it once or twice now and then performing it on May 16th or Jun 6th at the senior’s homes. It makes a world of difference how much we can accomplish at rehearsal if you practice and go over your own parts ahead of time.

The Canadian Band Association (CBA) will be hosting its second Community Brass Band Weekend in Barrie the weekend of April 21 – 23rd. If you are interested in participating details can be found at the following link:

CBBW Registration

Reminder that Lisa’s colleague Filomena is hosting the 2nd annual Give Gala on April 22nd. All proceeds raised will be donated to the Transplant Patient and Family Support Fund at the University Health Network. If you are interested in going or in putting together a GCCB table (10 people) please let Lisa know as soon as possible.
