Thank you to the sax section for taking the initiative and volunteering to look after returning our band room back to its original state after rehearsals until Christmas. It is sincerely appreciated.

Our Annual General Meeting will be held next Tuesday starting at 7:15 pm. I dont anticipate it lasting longer than an hour at which point we will have a short break and then continue with our regular rehearsal. Although most of you should have already received a copy, Ive enclosed to the weekly email our planned AGM agenda, the 3 x financial documents we intend to present and a copy of last years AGM Minutes for your review. If you have any significant concerns or questions please email me before the meeting so we may prepare an adequate response and provide it at the AGM. We plan to use the Smart board system in our band room so if youd like a hard copy of any of the documents for your use during the meeting, we invite you to print it out at home and bring it along to the meeting.

I want to start this weeks announcements off by extending a warm welcome to our new members Emilie on clarinet, Samuel on bari sax and Shelby on flute. Id also like to welcome back Julien on euphonium and James on trombone.

Executive Mtg held last Thursday. Minutes will be on Band website shortly in the members only area. A copy has been included with the weekly email for your information. A draft copy of the planned AGM Agenda scheduled for Sept 26th has also been included. If you have any concerns, questions or items to add to AGM Agenda please talk to one of your Executive no later than end of rehearsal on Sep 19th. A copy of the proposed budget that will be presented at the AGM for this year will be forwarded to all of you shortly.

A reminder to all to let your Section Leaders know if you will be returning this year so we can determine what our quorum needs to be for our upcoming AGM. Section Leaders can you please forward these details to me as soon as possible.

We were near capacity for our band room this past Tuesday. Please note that Lisa spent at least 15 mins after almost everyone had left moving chairs and music stands back into their proper place. If you and or your section have to move chairs and stands to set up for our Tuesday rehearsal, please have the courtesy to help return the room to its original state prior to leaving.

As mentioned during rehearsal the front door code for GCCB to use is #6835* It was working this week at 6:15 pm. I do not anticipate any further difficulties with this new system. A reminder that as the weather gets cooler, we will be closing our side entrance 5 10 mins after our conductor arrives. If you arrive after the side door is closed, you will have to use the code to enter the school from the front doors.

Great to see everyone at our first rehearsal last night!

I dont know about you but my chops were out of shape after a relatively quiet summer. Thank you to everyone for your patience as we sort out the new entrance code system. Ive already sent a message to the administrator noting the system wasnt working last night and to modify our entrance time so we can gain access no later than 6:30 each week. Please note that you need to enter a “*” prior to 4 numbers for the code to work; thank you Steve!

As I mentioned last night, your executive will be holding its first meeting this Thursday; primarily to plan for the upcoming AGM. Please note that at this years AGM the President position will be opening up. If anyone is interested in or has any questions regarding this amazing position please send us an email or contact anyone on your executive team. I will send out a planned agenda, including financial statements at least one week prior to our AGM.

Section Leaders As a returning member you should know who they are. If youre not sure please let me know and Ill introduce you. Please let your Section Leader know if you are not returning this year or when you will not be at a rehearsal or performance; depending on where we are in the season it can really help us maximize our practice time. Section Leaders please let me know prior to AGM who will be in your section this year.

First Rehearsal – Sept 5th

Happy Long Weekend TGIF!!

Although this should not impact most of you I wanted to give you a heads up on a new process that St Petes is implementing. Yesterday I received the enclosed message regarding accessing the school after hours.

**********
We have installed door access keypads at a dedicated entrance in our schools to improve overall safety and access for our permit holders.
This code is programmed to operate on the day of your activity, and will allow access 15 minutes prior to your scheduled usage.
The code is not to be shared and is only operational on the day of the permit (ie: if you group is in on Monday and Wednesday you will have a code for Monday and a second code for Wednesday).
to unlock press – (see email)
**********

I am not sure what the impact of this new process will have on us. I usually arrive on Tuesdays around 6:15 and park out front (front doors used to be unlocked) so I can find a custodian to unlock our bandroom for 6:30. Most Tuesdays this is a very straight forward. There have been a few occasions where Ive had to go searching for a custodian. Our permit timing is 7 9:30. This means that the new code will unlock the dedicated entrance at 6:45. At this point we will need to find a custodian to unlock our band room.

For our upcoming rehearsal on Tuesday, please be patient and bring your sense of humor with you. We will do our best to minimize any delays and sort out what the best way forward is.

We will be sight reading several new pieces next week so please make sure you pull out your instruments and warm up your chops at least a few times this weekend! As most of you are aware, Lisa has tried a new layout for her band room. The back row Tuba, Trombone, Trumpets (TTT) row will now be dedicated to the percussion section. This means everyone will push forward one row; TTT will now be in 3rd row. We are maxed out for space in our band room. As Ive mentioned before there are a few things that we as individuals can do to help minimize our frustrations. If you know you will be late for rehearsal please bring your own music stand. If you have an instrument case or backpack/purse that does not fit under your seat, please make sure you store it behind the filing cabinet or in the corner storage room. Our librarian needs to get around the room during rehearsal and it becomes a safety issue if shes continually climbing over or around our stuff.

Looking forward to seeing all of your smiling faces Tuesday! Have a great Long Weekend!!

Kevin

Happy July Everyone!

I just wanted to thank those that replied to my email regarding volunteering at the Mission Thrift Shop on 10th Line. We currently have a small but equal number of volunteers for both Thurs, Jul 27th and Sat, Jul 29th. Would any of you that have volunteered be willing to host a potluck at their place following our efforts?

For those that haven’t yet responded but may be interested, I would like to make a decision and let the manager of the store know which date we chose this week. Our plans are to volunteer from 1 – 4 pm on either the 27th or 29th and then get together for a pot luck dinner afterwards. If you are interested but haven’t let me know yet, please do so no later than the end of the day on Wednesday; don’t forget to include which dates you are available for and if you don’t mind having the potluck at your place.

Thank you and have a great summer!

Kevin

Good Day Everyone!

I hope this finds you all enjoying your summer! As I mentioned before the end of our performance season, we are looking at doing something different this year and volunteering some hours at a local charity within our community. We have selected the Missions Thrift Store on Tenth Line to focus our efforts. I met with the Manager Denis and some staff today who are all over the top excited about our dropping in. They have plenty of work for us so whether it’s 5 or 55, we will all be gainfully employed.

We are considering volunteering either Thursday, July 27 or Sat, July 29th from 1 – 4 pm followed by a potluck dinner. No specific skills are necessary but if you are good with electronics or furniture, please let me know and you may be put to work repairing some of the donated items that afternoon. In order for both the store manager and us to plan for the afternoon, can you please let me know if you are interested in helping out and if so, which date is preferable to you. If you are avail for both dates please let me know as well; we will go with the most popular date. I will send out an email with additional details as we get an idea of numbers and which date we have the most volunteers for.

Thanks,

Kevin
